Who do you support?
Swindon Town.
What’s your favourite football
illustration from your own work?
My favourite cartoons are the ones that
have presented a real challenge. My
primary motivation is always to make
the cartoons funny, although not every
subject lends itself to humour. There
have been times when the game has
experienced human tragedy, or lost
a legendary figure, so getting the tone
right is crucial. Therefore, I’m probably
proudest of my tribute cartoons to
people like Johan Cruyff and Cyrille
Regis. However, the cartoon which got
the best reaction was the Shawshank
Redemption parody I did featuring
Arsene Wenger and Gunnersaurus Rex.
Who’s your favourite player?
I don’t have one, given that I’m always
on the lookout for cartoon new content.
I prefer personalities with distinctive
features. I’m gutted I won’t get many
opportunities to do Maurizio Sarri next
season, but I still have Phil Jones...
What’s the best piece of commercial
work you’ve done?
Signing that Guardian contract. I nearly
didn’t, as I had a full-time job.
