THEY SAID IT...
The level of football was really
good but we know we can improve
as well. There is a long way to go
but the signs are good. The points
return looks good.
GRAHAM POTTER
Brighton have avoided defeat in
each of their last five games
against West Ham (W3 D2 L0);
their longest unbeaten run against
the Hammers.
West Ham are winless in their last
nine Prem matches in the month of
August (D1 L8), with Saturday’s draw
versus Brighton ending a run of
eight consecutive defeats.
Brighton haven’t scored more than
once in any of their last 13 Premier
League home games, netting just
eight goals in the process.
Against no side has West Ham
manager Manuel Pellegrini faced
more times without winning in the
Premier League than he has versus
Brighton (W0 D2 L1).
Brighton have won just one of
their last 11 Premier League games
(W1 D4 L6), beating Watford on the
opening day of 2019-20.

physical and a lot faster here,

Potter’s team, with a new
formation and spirit after last
season’s slump under Chris
Hughton, should have won.
Trossard, Glenn Murray, sub
Neal Maupay and Davy Propper
missed good chances – though
the Hammers are still to beat
Brighton in five Premier League
meetings.
Maupay, the £20m summer
capture from Brentford, was
guilty of the worst miss.
The Frenchman said: “The
chance I missed was very
frustrating, I should have
scored. Glenn cut it back and I
expected the centre-back to
clear the ball.
“But he missed it, I rushed it
and hit it over the bar. There will
be more to come.
“We were the better team, we
had chances to score but we
didn’t take them. We need to
work on that because in this
league if you miss chances, you
are in trouble.”
Gross) knows he has much to
live up to – and hopes his hero
Eden Hazard might glimpse his
first goal for Brighton.
He added: “I know about
all the Belgian players
who have come to
England and done
really well. I have been
in Belgium squads and
see them there too.
“I just want to show more of
what I did in this match. Maybe
even Eden would have been
proud of my goal! It is more
here and you can’t let your head
drop. That is about the worst
that can happen for a player
with the VAR because scoring a
goal is the best feeling in
the world.
“But we reacted well.
We kept pushing even
after falling behind.
And it was special and a
great feeling to later get
the goal on my debut, and to
help the team get a point.”

And 5ft 7ins winger Trossard
said: “A lot happened for me in
the match, especially the goal
that was disallowed.
“You have all that incredible
adrenaline for a long time, you
are enjoying your goal and then
you see it taken away.
“That was a huge
disappointment, because of
what it would have meant and
also it was a really nice strike.

Trossard hopes hero Hazard sees his reaction to VAR hell
BY HECTOR NUNNS
LEANDRO TROSSARD
admitted his Brighton debut
was an emotional roller-
coaster.
The 24-year-old playmaker is
the latest Belgian to seek
Premier League fame and
fortune in the Premier League
after a £15million summer
move from champions Genk.
Trossard saw his sweet first-
half volley ruled out by VAR
following wild celebrations
when provider Dan Burn was
shown to be just offside.
But on a day for pint-sized
predators, Trossard equalised
after Javier Hernandez had
given Manuel Pellegrini’s West
Ham the lead.
Seagulls boss Graham Potter

Former Arsenal stopper Fabianski,
34, said: “Quality-wise, we have a very
decent team and squad to do well in the
league. But, as ever, it is about
performances, not just players.
“You cannot look only at the names
in the team, you have to perform every
week. And that is what we will be
judged by. The quality is there, though.”
LUKASZ FABIANSKI insists West Ham
can live up to the hype this season.
The Polish international goalkeeper
(right) was encouraged to see Manuel
Pellegrini’s team claim a first point of
the season at Brighton.
The Hammers have been tipped to
challenge for the ‘best of the rest’ title
chasing the big six this term – along
with Wolves, Everton and Leicester.
And they restored some confidence
