(^25) SEIKO
Prospex 1970s Diver
Re-creation Limited edition
You’d be forgiven for mistaking
this particular watch for
something other than a Seiko.
But to proper Seiko diving
watch enthusiasts, this is a
piece of horological history
that’s been recreated for
watch and film nerds the world
over. As the name suggests,
it’s based on the watch made
famous by Martin Sheen in
the war classic Apocalypse
Now. Perfectly demonstrative
of the diving watches of that
era, it offers a genuine retro
aesthetic with updated modern
movements. And, it’s limited to
just 2,500 pieces.
(^26) LONGINES
HydroConquest
This year, Longines updated
its flagship diver collection
with new ceramic inserts for
the bezels – making it scratch-
resistant and more attuned
to the needs of professional
divers. The HydroConquest
has always been capable of
taming the big blue, and now
gets the self-winding Calibre
L888.2 with a 64-hour power
reserve. Meanwhile, the case
offers water resistance up
to 300m, making it a nifty
companion for scuba divers.
Add in crown protection with a
double security folding clasp,
and this one’s got your back
down in the depths.
27 CASIO
G-Shock MTG-B1000RB
Celebrating 20 years of the
MT-G, Casio has released this
rainbow-coloured wonder.
The colours are meant to
reflect a lunar rainbow – much
like a regular rainbow, but
edgier and cooler, since it’s
a rare meteorological event
caused by lunar rays. What’s
remarkable is how Casio has
managed to keep a visual
theme that could have so
easily gone over the top, so
subdued. Of course, it’s not
entirely about the looks: It
connects to your phone, has
200m water resistance and
world time calibration for over
300 cities. A rainbow on the
wrist? That can’t look anything
but good.
