Military Illustrated Modeller – August 2019

AFV Edition

In preparation for the classic
Red Army invasion stripes
the author sprayed the upper
and hull in Humbrol Acrylic
White. Of note is the snorkel
hatch attached to the front
lefthand side of the turret

Careful study of a good few Soviet
T-10Ms from the 1968 invasion showed
numerous different positions for the
invasion stripes. To this end the author
picked the ones best suited to the two
graffiti'd tanks. Tamiya masking tape
came in very handy for this little job

A fairly clean T-10M as it may
have appeared having just left the
company paint shop, minus unit
markings. Now this mini canvas is
ready for miniature slogans and
symbols of the protesters' ire

WHITE CROSSES
With construction complete, I now set about
painting the brute, first spraying the turret and
upper hull with blasts of Humbrol Acrylic White.
These areas where then masked off with lengths
of Tamiya tape. A point of interest here is that the
invasion stripes seem to have been painted to the
tank crew's ability as the approach differs from
photo to photo. Over this I sprayed a pale, faded
almost apple green which I'd seen on a few worn
out Soviet tanks and I then applied some light
weathering with pigments over the tracks, road
wheels and upper hull.
