Next New Zealand – September 2019

design and sampling manager Olive
Cashmore, her dad and I painted together.
We always have owers in the ofce as
I like it to smell like nature, and sounds
are usually courtesy of our sales manager,
George Carey – he has the best taste
in music.
My days usually start with some quiet
time in my ofce, during which I work
through emails. The rest of the day is split
between our different teams – design,
production, sales, marketing, press, retail

  • with meetings scattered throughout.
Every morning, I make myself a cup of
tea. I gave up coffee a few months ago, so
this has become my new ritual. My
dachshund, Honey, has a ritual of running
around in the morning and saying hello to
every single member of the team when
they arrive. We also try to do a team yoga
class in the ofce once a week.
My work environment has to be inspiring
and optimistic – and feel warm and
welcoming. We love having our customers
pop in for a visit, so I’d really like to have
a bigger space for our showroom – it’s on
my wish list for our next space.
In my dream ofce, I’d have a beautiful
big kitchen where we could have a chef
cooking fresh food for the team using
produce from our own organic vegetable
patch out the back – and all of our makers
would join us for lunch every Friday. This
is my dream – I’m manifesting it!
Something I’ll never change about my
workspace is the people. A home is about
the people, not the place, and my team
    is like family.
