BRAVE NEW VISIONS AT SOTHEBY’S
It’s your last chance to see Sotheby’s
major summer exhibition exploring
pioneering émigrés that revolutionised
art in Britain.
The exhibition, which features more than
40 paintings and sculptures, highlights
refugees who escaped Nazi Europe to
re-make their lives in Britain – later to
introduce avant-garde European and
British artists to the art scene through
dealing and publishing. These included

women dealers Lea Bondi-Jaray, Erica
Brausen and Annely Juda; former
French Resistance fighters-turned-
gallerists Charles and Peter Gimpel; and
publishers Béla Horovitz and Ludwig
Goldscheider (Phaidon) and Walter
Neurath and Eva Feuchtwang at Thames
& Hudson. The artists they championed
included Kurt Schwitters, Frank
Auerbach, Joseph Heartfield and
Francis Bacon. Ends August 9.

RICHARD ORLINSKI
France’s best-selling contemporary artist,
Richard Orlinski, has opened a concept
gallery on New Bond Street.
The space is entirely dedicated to the artist’s
works – featuring his signature pop art-
inspired sculptures cast from various metals
and resin, including versions of his well-
known animal figures.
