BRECONMountainRailway’s
(BMR) Baldwin 2-6-2 No.1Santa
Teresa(15515/1897) hauled its
first passenger serviceonJune
18.
It wasinitially built as
a2ft-gauge 2-6-0forthe
CompanhiaMogiana de Estrada
de Ferrosystem(acoffee
plantation) in Brazil,whereitr an
as No.26, butwaslatersoldto
Usina SantaTeresa SugarMill and
re-gaugedto 2ft6in. This system
closedby 1976.
No.1was importedtoBritain
in 1990 and boughtbyBMR in
2002.
Theboiler,cab andtenderwere
beyondrepair and scrapped,

with the locohaving been
completelyrebuiltat BMR’s Pant
workshops,retaining the original
main frame,cylinders,valvegear
and some of the running gear.
It wasrever tedto2ft gauge
while beingconverted to a2-6-2.
Newcomponents encompass
the boiler,smokebox, cab,
wheels,axles,rear subframe,rear
truck,front pilot(cow catcher)
and tender.

Pontsticill station along the
shoreofTaf Fechanreservoir on
its waytoTorpantau on July 3.

Organisation, which will enable
the recovery of GiftAid.
Contributions of £500

(payable inasingleamount,
twopayments of £250 payable
12 months apartormonthly
payments of £25over 24
months) will entitle the donor
to receipt of anexclusivefine
artprintofGowrieandaticket
forthe loco’sfirst servicetrain or
launch event.
