Late 19th century
Not all majolica was used as serviceware. Finer pieces, like this
berry plate and pitcher, were probably proudly displayed rather
than used—as indicated by their near-perfect condition. At its
height of popularity in the 1880s, majolica, like silver and pewter,
was often given as a wedding gift.
