METZELER CRUISETEC

To make matters worse, there was a massive
traffic jam most of the way to Goulburn. So we
took the only option and got going.
It is hard to comment on the Cruisetec perfor-
mance over the next hour, mainly because we were
so cold! An air temperature of just three degrees
was made worse by riding into an icy wind and we
arrived at the Big Merino completely frozen. The
hotel staff were ready with boiling hot tea however
and soon the bar was filled with happy journos.
We were all pretty impressed with the Cruisetecs
but the next day would prove the point.
The weather was clear next day and we rode
to Pheasant Wood Circuit, near Marulan. I had
never heard of it but it is a great little racetrack,
about 1.6 kilometres long, very twisty and recently
resurfaced.
Once on track, the Cruisetecs proved very grippy
and offered smooth transition between corners. Big,
heavy cruiser bikes don’t normally do racetracks
very well but it was surprising how the various
models fared. Ground clearance was in short
supply of course but the transition from side to
side was easily done and there was no ABS chatter
