Breakout


I


n 1984 Harley-Davidson released the Evolution
Softail and although only around 5000 were
produced that year, it kicked off a big boom in
the popularity of Harleys worldwide. The FXST’s
styling epitomised what a factory chopper of
the day should look like.
And the Motor Company has pulled another
rabbit from their hat with the Breakout, as this
model became Australia’s top selling bike over the
last few years. Not just in its category, but overall.
The very first time ever that a Harley-Davidson has
achieved that.
Now ya gotta love the phrases the Milwaukee
marketing boys come up with around their glass-
top tables. Here’s their take on the Breakout: “The


Breakout 114 is a muscular modern chopper with pure
stop you in your tracks attitude. Be seen. Be respected.
And when the light turns green, be gone.” Yeah.
I think that many of us started rather humbly
with our first Harley-Davidson purchase but owner
Blake went straight for the top shelf, not just in his
selection of model but also by having Traralgon H-D
ramp the performance up with a Screamin’ Eagle
Stage IV build! That’s a modification that produces
117 prancing ponies at the back wheel, ponies
that provide neck-snapping acceleration and arm
stretching torque.
The Screamin’ Eagle Stage IV 117 kit was devel-
oped to deliver maximum horsepower from the
Milwaukee-Eight engine all the way to the redline.
