Fundraising with Yinka.

The Yinka doll was devised as a fundraising idea by Midsomer Quilting
shortly after they opened. To help one of their younger customers, they
have brought her back. Megan tells us about her trip. ‘My name is Megan
Knapp, I am 14 years old and from Somerset. In 2020 I will be part of a
small group of Girl Guides volunteering in Tanzania. I have loved my nine
years in the Guides and have been on many camps but never anything
quite like this one! For two weeks we will work in local schools near Arusha
teaching the children English, playing games and brightening up their
school and local environment in as many ways as we can. To help raise the
£2500 for the trip I am selling kits to make these lovely African dolls.’

Yinka doll kits are available from Megan and Angela Knapp, care of
Midsomer Quilting, Manor Farm, Chilcompton, BA3 4HP. Kits are £9 plus
£1.10 postage. Each contains instructions, rings and all material needed
(other than stuffi ng). Cheques should be payable to Angela Knapp and all
profi t from sales of the 9" dolls will go towards Megan’s trip.

For more information please contact Midsomer Quilting on 01761 239333.
The kits are not available on their website.

Jen Kingwell on Retreat.

Join Jen Kingwell for her fantastic Puzzle Piecing workshop where you can learn
to create your own jigsaw style of quilt. Jen fi rst became known for this look with
her quilt ‘Green Tea & Sweet Beans’ and from it’s success went on to create other
quilts with this similar style, the ‘Gipsy Wife’ amongst them. These quilts are like
a traditional sampler but their construction method tricks the eye to create a
traditional quilt with a modern twist. Do you have a collection of blocks made that
never made it into a quilt? Work with these orphan blocks and create a whole new
design of your own! Don’t have any orphan blocks? Feel free to select blocks from
Jen’s Template Tempter range or any of her other patterns to add to your quilt.

Jen describes herself as a traditional quilter with a modern twist. She loves scrappy
quilts and the more fabrics she can use in a single project the happier she is. In her
perfect world, she would hand stitch everything but with today's busy lifestyle, she does machine piece as well. Hand appliqué
and quilting are among her favourite pastimes. Jen designed her fi rst fabric range for Moda called ‘Gardenvale’ in April 2015 and
her fi rst book ‘Quilt Lovely’ was released soon after. Jen has gone on to have many successful ranges for Moda.

Sew Hot have invited Jen to teach various techniques to enable you to design your own quilt on a wonderful two night retreat at
Preston Marriott Hotel, an old Victorian manor house with spa, pool and fi tness suite. With packages ranging from £295 for the
workshops only to £495 full board for the whole weekend, there is something for everyone. Jen will also be entertaining on the
Saturday evening with a ‘trunk show’.
