What’s being caught? The
Shobnall section is fishing
well for quality roach to 10 oz,
perch to 6 oz and skimmers
to 1 lb, 10 lb pleasure nets not
uncommon. Also chub to 5 lb
and perch to over 3 lb in the

best 31 lb. Chance of a barbel
to over 6 lb at Wychnor and
Alrewas, where the Trent joins
the canal.
Tactics? Pole and casters
down the track at 4-5 m for
the perch and roach, evenings
best, after the boat traffic
dies down. For the skimmers,

put some groundbait in and
fish casters. Use a heavier
rig for the chub, with worm
and casters, to overhanging
brambles and bushes.

overhanging vegetation.

was won by Malcolm Davies
with 17 carp for 131 lb 4 oz. A
pleasure angler fishing for carp
caught a 2 lb 8 oz roach on a
boilie.
Tactics? Method feeder with
2, 3 and 4 mm soaked pellets

in the feeder and Ringers
pink and Chocolate Orange
wafters doing the business
for the carp, at 60-100 yards.
Pellet waggler will work as
the weather warms, or off the

be mindful of the waterfowl.

Lake now. Charlie’s Pool is
perfect for kids in the summer
holidays, a recent school party
of ten children all catching
roach, perch and F1s, one
child having 36, Pete Rice and
his son Mark are qualified
coaches. The Stock Pool is
fishing its brains out for carp

off the deck, 25-30 yards out,

to avoid the skimmers. Pole
at 3-4 m with 4 mm pellets
for the silver fish. Whip or
stick float with maggots on
Charlie’s. On Stock Pool,

strangely, Method feeder on
4 m of pole is working, with
micros in the feeder and
groundbait around it, using
8-10 mm pellets, corn and
luncheon meat on the hook,
just plopping the feeder out.
No floating baits allowed.

Tuna boilies doing really well,

bed of boilies and pellets, 6-7
rod lengths out best, then
the margins later in the day
and overnight. On Coot, float
fish for the tench with corn
and meat, feeding pellets
around the reed beds and lily
pads. Groundbait feeder with
worms for the bream, fished
a bit further out than the carp
anglers, but the bream do
come in closer sometimes.
