O

N the River Kenn at
Clevedon’s Strode Road,
in North Somerset, in the
space of a few hundred yards
you go from a drain-like river
bordered by Norfolk reed
and trees, to open seascape
of a shoreline.
It’s home to a decent head
of quality coarse fi sh, and
each season it delivers some
fi ne specimen bream, tench,
roach and perch, as well as
big roach and rudd.
In early summer,
100 lb-plus bream hauls are
a feature, though more often
you are seeking a few quality
‘slabs’ and a tench or two
among the roach and perch.
The venue responds to a
variety of tactics, such as
pole and maggots, casters
or worms over crumb,
chopped worm and casters,
supplemented with loosefed
casters.
Crumb feeder across to

Catching on the

far bank cover is a good way to
tempt the big fi sh, or waggler
and casters over loosefeed
on this sluggish watercourse,

Hightown Lake, Ringwood,
Hampshire, BH24 1QR.
Local angler Troy Bell landed
this 30 lb mirror carp on a
Dynamite CompleX-T boilie
cast tight to an island, with
free offerings catapulted
over the top, at this 22-acre
gravel pit, controlled by
Ringwood & District AA.
