(vip2019) #1

7% Votes. The Left Candidates campaigned enor-
mously, the response from the People was fair,
but all these were not reflected in the EVMs. The
Slogan at the state level was Trinamool Hatao
Bangla Bachao, BJP Hatao Desh Bachao (remove
Trinamool from the state, remove BJP from Cen-
tre), the first part of the slogan was accepted by
the people whereas the second part of the slogan
could not attract the population of Bengal. The
Congress, on the other hand, bagged two seats,
the BJP got 18 seats, and the Trinamool got 22
seats. The results of Trinamool worsened, the
Party had 34 seats in 2014. The BJP and Trina-
mool could easily polarize the political condi-
tion of Bengal, which led to the left debacle in
the state. The call for a larger front to combat the
BJP was seen successful in Tamil Nadu, whereas
in Bengal no such Secular platform could be or-
ganized, bringing all Secular Parties and com-
bating the BJP and the Trinamool. The political
analysts are of the opinion that the entire politi-
cal environment of Bengal has changed radically
over the past 6-7 years where an enormous anti-
incumbency against the Trinamool government
has risen, but the Left had failed to capitalize this
particular phenomenon and hence a sizeable
amount of population which has been voting for
the Left since decades voted for BJP this time in
order to stop Trinamool. We lack a strong Op-
position in the Lok Sabha, and the centralizing
tendency of the Central Government is hinder-
ing social progress all across the spectrum.
However, significantly another thing can
be traced- SFI could enter in many Colleges/Uni-
versities and campaign due to the poll debacle of
Trinamool. Trinamool is in a pathetic condition
after the Lok Sabha Polls; the BJP has made good
inroads in the state. Both Trinamool and BJP are
giving communal tinge in almost every issue. Ri-
ots have become a regular phenomenon in the
state which used to resist communal riots and
campaign for Unity of All Sections during the
Left Rule. SFI has participated in the Mass move-
ment of the Doctors and the state government

headed by Mamata is going under a tough situa-
tion. A junior doctor was attacked by the family
members of a patient who died in ICU. The doc-
tor was hit severely, and he had to be operated in
the head. The doctors had come into the streets,
and probably for the first time in the history of
the subcontinent, the doctors had organized suc-
cessful strikes. Hundreds of doctors had resigned
from their posts, thousands all across the country
had hit the streets, and the movement of Nil Ratan
Sarkar Hospital and Medical College turned into
a mass movement having an All India character.
The Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, made un-
desirable comments and threatened the doctors
for the ongoing movement. She later realized that
her action isolated her from the masses. The doc-
tors did not move away from their stance, and
the movement turned into a militant one, but the
Left could have played a better role.

The doctors had halted their service, and the
state machinery was about to collapse. We can
trace elements of left in the movement though
the movement was claimed as apolitical it went
on like a militant left movement but could not
continue for a longer period. Mamata Banerjee
finally had to bow down before the Doctors of
Bengal, and a live press conference was organ-
ized where the Doctors openly clarified that do
not treat patients by seeing the surname. Mamata
Banerjee said that the Doctors of the Govern-
ment hospitals treat patients by seeing their sur-
