CAN YOU REALLY
BE PLATONIC
PALS WITH A
GUY? THE TRUTH
ABOUT BUDDY-
ING UP WITH A
BOY...AND WHEN
TO BREAK
THE BOND.
BY JIAE KIM
Ahh, guy friends.
From the sporty dude who’s
always down for a game of
kickball to the laid-back boy
you can count on as a dance
date in a pinch, each BGF
adds his own special vibe to
your crew. But sometimes
things can take a turn—and
leave you wondering if you’re
really “friends” or if things
are a bit more complicated.
Find out if your connection
is cool...or if you’re headed
for heartbreak.
You’ve been study buddies since seventh
grade, but now he’s sending signals that
he’s into more than your chem notes.
KEEP IT GOING Drop some clear hints (“I’m so
glad we can help each other keep our grades
up”) that you’re content to keep things on
the no-nonsense narrow. Hopefully, he’ll be
cool with that...so you can maintain your
friendship (and your grades).
LET IT FADE^ If he’s feeling you and you’re feel
ing, well, nothing, then (gently) let him know
now before he falls further. If he still doesn’t
get the hint, you may have to ease up on the
cram sessions for a while.
Your BFF begged you to hook her up with
your BGF. You knew they weren’t going to
be right for each other...and sure enough,
they break up in about five seconds.
KEEP IT GOING Ditch their drama by institut
ing a no-gossip rule with both your best girl -
*and* guy. It’ll keep things more calm—and
both friendships solid.
LET IT FADE Sometimes you have to take a
stand—and a side. Say your BGF kissed anoth
er girl, then ghosted your bestie...and she’s -
totally torn up. Can you stay pals with the boy
who brutally broke your BFF’s heart? Only you
know the answer to that.
