CANOPY JACKSON SQUARE BY AMIR MORTAZAVI AND YVES BEHAR

Inspired by the artists and radicals who transformed the
landscape of North Beach and Jackson Square regions circa
the 1950s, Amir Mortazavi of the M-Projects and Yves Behar’s
blueprints for Canopy Jackson Square—the second Canopy
outpost after Pacific Heights—are justifiably modern and
ergonomic. The duo pays homage to the neighbourhoods with
the interplay of geometric and organic elements; symbolic
colour palette; and the design of fixtures and artworks. That
authentic San Francisco vibe is echoed throughout the 13,000
sqf of premium office space.

“If I had to pick one spot at Canopy to get some work done, it
would be the phone booth where you get unparalleled views of
the city. People today don’t want to sit at the same desk from
9-5. Being close to nature and the outdoors is essential and
we have created the ultimate indoor/outdoor work experience.

I believe a good working environment can inspire one, besides
offering limited distractions. There should be a diversity of
spaces where people can work in a focused manner—casual,
collaborative and discreet,” says Mortazavi.

Walking the talk, Mortazavi and Behar along with co-founder
Steve Mohebi equipped the establishment with glass-enclosed
private offices, open workspaces and a café by Jane. There
is plenty of design ingenuity scattered across the edifice;
among the highlights is an architectural canopy erected as a
freestanding fanning structure that doubles as bookshelves.
Canopy Jackson Square is also fitted out with furnishings by
Herman Miller as well as state-of-the-art technology such as
Modernus glass partitions in the private offices.
