SPACE OUT
Several of Autumn/Winter 2019’s
most arresting runway showspaces
incorporated the world of art resulting
in sets that aren’t just aesthetically
pleasing, but also deeply layered
with meaning. Continuing her
collaborations with creatives of
different fields and her ongoing
championing of feminist messages,
Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri teamed
up with conceptual artist and
feminist icon Tomaso Binga—using
her Naked Alphabet photo series
as backdrop, and enlisting Binga
herself to introduce the show with
a poetry recital. At Miu Miu, Miuccia
Prada turned to artist and filmmaker
Sharna Osborne, who stacked up
multiple screens playing her signature
lo-fi videos—painting a nostalgic
dreamscape of girlhood. At Louis
Vuitton, Nicolas Ghesquiere didn’t
necessarily work with an artist, but
instead lavishly chose to recreate
one of the world’s most famous art
institutions—the Renzo Piano and
Richard Rogers-designed Centre
Pompidou—in the courtyard of
another, the legendary Musée Louvre.

Suede Sensation
Smooth and sophisticated and yet subtler than its leather cousin, suede pieces
make an impact that feels more whispered than shouted. While our tropical climes
might make it harder to rock a full suede suit ala Hermès, accessories in the supple
material deliver the same kind of impact in a lower dose. Burgundy knee-high boots
and a chocolate crossbody nod at bohemian breeziness while maintaining a sense of
refined polish.

Power Pair
When the first drop of the Nike Air Fear
of God collaboration landed earlier
this year, the sneakers sold out almost
instantly. Designer Jerry Lorenzo is
now back with an expanded collection
that includes the Nike Air Fear of God
Raid—rejecting the current trend of
brash colours for a pared-back palette
and graphic criss-crossing straps—
along with the laceless Nike Air Fear
of God Moc, the short-sleeved hoodies
that are a Fear of God signature as
well as rejigged track-inspired pieces.
