Third wave coffee is infiltrating the drinks cabinet. Irish
brand Black Twist has recently launched a spirit called
Hard Coffee, cold brewing finely ground coffee in Irish
whiskey to create a drink with less sweetness and
more character. Says founder Conor Coughlan, ‘It can
be used to create a range of coffee cocktails that go
beyond the Espresso Martini.’ His recommendations
include Irish Cold Brew Martini (adding Irish whiskey,

stout and whipped cream) and Cold Brew Spritz (adding
Aperol and tonic water). And it’s not just whiskey
getting a new coffee hit. Faith & Sons has made a coffee
gin and Patrón a coffee tequila, Chase has created an
espresso vodka, while Australian brand Mr Black blends
cold brew coffee with 14 distilled botanicals.
