SHOOT WITH A PRO

USE HIGH

SPEED SYNC

USUALLY the fastest
shutter speed you can
use with flash is about
1/200 sec, but JP shoots
at up to 1/8000 sec with
a set of Neewer VC-818TX
triggers using high speed
sync. Using such a speed
removes almost any trace
of ambient light, so the
only light that is recorded
is that from the flash.

JP’S FAVE

FOOD SHOTS

BUTCHER
AFTER capturing
the food on this
shoot I had a bit
of time, so got
the chef to hold
a cut of beef and
had the light
coming in from
the side to boost
the drama.

ICE CREAM
MANY people say that ice cream
is one of the most difficult foods
to photograph, but I disagree.
I spent a lot of time preparing
the set to make it look as good
as possible.

SUE’S COMMENT

This cocktail is called
the Widbrook Royal
and was a gorgeous mixture
of Chapel Down English fizz,
Edinburgh gin and raspberry
liqueur. We put out one of JP’s backgrounds on
a table and placed the tall flute on top of it with
the softbox behind to give the glass a lush rim
lighting. The lime garnish on the rim and the
raspberries in the glass made for a strong focal
point. JP also poured in some extra tonic,
so I was able to catch the moment it
hit the cocktail and fizz up. Using
flash and a fast shutter speed of
1/8000 sec made sure the
impact was frozen.
