race. Both scored comfortably above the 4,000 points we consider excellent. All
the laptops’ fast SSD boot drives aced the PCMark 8 Storage subtest.


The next two tests are CPU-intensive, fully utilizing all available cores and
threads. Cinebench R15 yields a proprietary score based on how long it takes to
render a complex image, while our Handbrake test puts a stopwatch on systems
as we encode a 12-minute clip of 4K video down to 1080p.


The Alpha 15’s Ryzen 7 chip is a clear step behind the Core i5-9300H in the MSI
GL65, and neither is in the same league as the six-core Core i7s. The Ryzen isn’t
a slow CPU by any means, but it’s less suited to heavy lifting.


This is also evident in our Adobe Photoshop image editing test, in which we use
