Q

You featured a calendar project in one issue that can be
used year after year – can you please tell me which issue it
was? I can’t even remember what it was called or who designed
it to search for it in my back issues! I want to make something
that lasts longer than a year to save wastage. Such a great idea.

Katriel says: This sounds very much like the ‘Perpetual
Calendar’, designed by Durene Jones, which was featured in
issue 278 (March 2019). This great project was a big hit with
everyone and you’re right – it’s a great waste saver, not needing
a new calendar every year! There’s a main design to stitch and
mount on a canvas, which you can then push pins through to
hang your stitched months, days of the week and numbers from.
It’s easily customisable too, just switch the colours to your
favourites or colour scheme to suit your home décor. What a
lovely project to embark on for the new year ahead. Save the date!
You can reuse this calendar
from issue 278 forever!

Q
I saw a double hoop
project somewhere,
which had purple butterflies

  • was this in your magazine? It
looked like right up my street
and I’d love to stitch it!

Hannah says: You’re
correct, Harriet – this
double hoop project was in
issue 277 (February 2019) and
designed by Fiona Baker. It
features butterflies in each
stage of flight surrounded by
striking blackwork stitches.

Isn’t it absolutely captivating?
I’m not surprised you are so
keen to stitch it, I would love
to have this hanging on the
wall at home.
This project includes a
tutorial on how to make the
double hoop too, which is a
lot simpler than it looks!
However, if you don’t
have this issue already I’m
afraid it’s out of print as a
physical edition, but you can
still download the digital back
issue via our Android and
Apple apps. Enjoy, Harriet!
