Friend and Protector, watercolour, 14 19in (35.5 48.5cm).
Some more darks were added to the dog, the laundry hanging
on the porch and tracks on the beach. All these nal details
added a little more life to the scene
t q STAGE SEVEN
I worked on the little boy, again careful not to put too much detail into him
so he didn’t become sti -looking. The addition of the dark shadows under
the patio really help to bring out the bright areas on the boy and dog. I t ’s
important to become a good negative-shape maker when dealing with
watercolour. I much prefer painting around light objects to using masking uid
