Arrange four background and black
3 in HSTs in two rows of two, as
shownin Fig H, and sew together into a
four-patch block (see the box out on the
previouspage for instructions). Make a
totaloffour identical black/background
four-patch blocks.

Sewthe units from steps 19 and 20
together with the 6in fussy cut
square,in three rows of three as shown in
theCentre Block Assembly Diagram. Sew
thethreerows together to complete the
centreblock (Fig I).

BEGIN SEWING THE ROUNDS

Next, you will begin assembling the
rounds. As you work, refer to the Layout
Diagrams and photos for orientation of
fabrics when working with stripes. Note,
the rounds diagram shows each round in
the centre, which you will make four of. On
either side of each round, the cornerstones
are also shown to help with orientation.
You will need a total of four cor ner s tones
for each round.

ROUND ONE

With RST sew one 1in x 9in strip of
Fabric B to the same size strip of Fabric
C along the length. Press the seam open.
Sew the Fabric B edge to a 2in x 9in strip
of background along the length and press
open. Make eight strip units.

Add a CST to one strip unit using a
black 3in square, in the bottom right
corner (see the box out on the previous
page for CST instructions). Repeat with
a second strip, adding the CST to the
bottom left (Fig J). Repeat to make four
left corner and four right corner strip sets.

Sew a right and left segment together,
along the short edge of the CST side
to complete Round One. Make four.

ROUND ONE CORNERSTONE

Using sixteen 1in squares of both
Fabric B and fussy cut print, make eight
four-patch blocks.

Sew two four-patches and two 2in
square black/background HSTs into
a larger four-patch, positioning as shown,
to make one cornerstone (Fig K). Make a
total of four cornerstones.
