Nothing is safe
Do not assume files are
safe unless they come directly
from Apple. They might contain
malware like adverts and spyware.
Go to Safari>Preferences>General
and clear the option to Open ‘safe’
files after downloading. Movies,
pictures, sounds and PDFs might
contain Mac or PC malware.

Block ads
Some web adverts have been found to be malicious,
leading you to malware. Block them with Magic Lasso
Blocker. Go to Safari>Safari Extensions and install it.
Enable it in Safari>Preferences>Extensions, select
‘Content Blockers’ on the Websites tab and enable it
when visiting other websites.
9
Block everything
There are several tracker and content
blockers available and Ghostery Lite is a good one.
Go to Safari>Safari Extensions and install it. Go
to Safari>Preferences and enable it in Extensions,
and also in Content Blockers on the Websites tab.
Restart Safari and click the Ghostery icon.
10
Check website settings
Go to Safari>Preferences>Websites>Downloads.
Check which sites can download files and remove any you
don’t need. Go to Auto-Play and select ‘Never Auto-Play’
to prevent media files from running in case they contain
malware. Set Camera and Microphone to ‘Ask’.
The Apple Mac is safer than it has ever been and there are multiple systems
protecting it. Make sure you use them.
