WHERE’S WAFFLE?

A

mammoth search and rescue operation, comprising commercial
drones, an extensive social media campaign, and hundreds of
people, has helped locate a lost dog.
Mack, a one-year-old Dogue de Bordeaux, went missing
after escaping from his kennel and being hit by a car in
Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire. The driver stopped and tried to
catch him, but he ran of into a nearby i eld.
Mack’s owner, Mitchell Flack, a scaf older from Blackpool,
launched a dedicated Facebook page, ‘Return of the Mack’, while
his original post was shared more than 2,100 times and attracted
6,000 supporters.
Meanwhile, commercial drone pilots from the Drone SAR for
Lost Dogs UK Facebook group, which now boasts more than
900 volunteer pilots across the country, were drafted in to help,
while friends, family, and complete strangers joined in the hunt for
the hound.
After a six-day search, Mack was i nally found trapped by barbed
wire in a ditch more than two miles — half an hour’s walk — from
where he was last seen.
Following his rescue, a GoFundMe page was set up to help cover
Mack’s vet treatment, surpassing its £3,500 target by nearly £800 in
just hours.
