Just as he wasexpecting his first child with

Kelly Piquet (daughter of three-time world

champion Nelson),Kvyat was also putting

in one of the best drives of his career. In

a chaotic 2019 German GP,Kvyat made a

slick-tyre gamble work and hetook a well-

earned podium. However, it wasteam-mate

Alex Albon who also impressed in that race

(but was out-foxed late on) and, according

to Red Bull’s bosses, did enoughto warrant

a promotion. That must have beentough

for Kvyat to take, but he’s been here many

times before...

GP RACING VERDICT

It would be unfairto describeKvyat as a

journeyman, but it’s difficultto see how he’s

goingto break back intoRed Bull unless

Albon’sform suddenly drops.

It was something of a shockfor Gaslyto

be unceremoniously dropped during the

mid-season break last year. ButRed Bull

boss Christian Horner had already admitted

that Gasly’s promotionto the seniorteam

had perhaps been premature. Early on,

Gasly appearedto flounder in theRed Bull.

Not only did he have tocontend with the

ultra-quick MaxVerstappen on the other

side of the garage, but the characteristics

of the car didn’t workfor him. Once Gasly

returnedto Toro Rosso he was instantly

more comfortable and competitive.

GP RACING VERDICT

An impressive second in Brazil at the

end of last year proved Gasly is a talent –

can hekeep his head when things aren’t

going his way?
