How to decorate

with pink

Use this go-to hue to
create a strong theme

l Picking the right colour
of pink paint can be a
minefield, they all have
their own personalities. In
Hanna’s house she has used
pink as a neutral upstairs in
the master bedroom. If
you’re looking for a similar
neutral it is important to
try out as many as you can.

l If you prefer a calmer
ambience, choose lighter
shades of either cool or

warm pink, and choose a base
colour with some white
or brown in it to keep it
from being too strong.

l To introduce more vibrant
pinks into your scheme, try
balancing it all out with plenty
of white or dark walls. Hanna
has kept most walls colour-
free so it is the vibrant
accessories which bring
in the pink colour hit.

l If you are still unsure you
could try adding pink in a small
space, like on your front door or
a cabinet, to make a statement
without too much investment
if you change your mind.

Snug
‘This used to be where the old galley
kitchen was and, with its old fireplace
and original brick wall, it is one of
the cosiest rooms in the house. My
mum made all the cushions using
pink velvet fabric. We had the built-in
shelves put in by the same carpenter
who made our kitchen table and
cocktail cabinet. The sofa is the
Ektorp three-seater in Dark Grey from
Ikea, the pouffe was an Aldi special
buy and the star over the sofa is from
a local reclamation yard in Suffolk.’

Style idea

Pair exposed brick

with fresh white for

a pleasing contrast

‘I really wanted a
fresh and feminine
feel in the hallway,
to set the tone
for the rest of the
house, and so
went with these
graphic Henley
Ice Victorian-style
tiles from Topps
Tiles and painted
the door pink.
Our gallery wall
features lots of my
favourite pieces,
including thank
you and special
birthday cards.’
