Hillbilly Homes LIFESTYLE

Dear Jonno,

We have decided to build ourselves a new house on our

Karoo farm. Our son, his wife and our grandchildren are

returning to South Africa after many years in Argentina,

so we need a home that will accommodate all of us.

We want an L-shaped home, with one section of the

‘L’ having the living area at ground floor level, and the

other (a double-storey) containing bedrooms above and

below. We’ll use the downstairs bedroom, while the

rest of the family can have their privacy upstairs. All

rooms must be comfortably sized, but not too large.

We have plenty of fieldstone rock as building

material, and want the roof made of cement-slate tiles,

with a thatch underlay over the beamed living area.

The roof should have an unusual design. We like the

segmented, dual-pitched roofs currently popular.

Kind regards, Hannes and Maria

Dear Hannes and Maria,
The home I’ve designed for you is family-friendly. At ground
floor level, the internal living area is complementary to the
outside activity areas. The roof is one of a kind, but is
nonetheless still quite easy to construct.
Please let me have your further thoughts, and I will be
happy to adjust the design accordingly.
Kind regards,
Jonno
