Sony develops ToF image sensor with

smallest pixel pitch

S

ony Corp. announced
the development of a
back-illuminated time-

with a 10-micron pixel pitch,
smallest in the industry. The
company combined the ToF
image sensor technology of
Softkinetic Systems S.A., a Sony
subsidiary acquired in 2015,

CMOS image sensor technology
for its development. The heart

proprietary Current Assisted
Photonic Demodulation (CAPD).
The new sensor is built on the
advantage of a back-illumination
pixel structure, which layers
the circuitry beneath the
photodetector. By optimizing
the pixel structure and circuitry
for CAPD, the new Sony product
delivers improved light collection

speed distance measurement.
The design delivers accuracy

equivalent to that delivered by
conventional methods, even
at 1.5 times the distance. The
higher level of light collection

to keep the power consumption
down and allows the ToF camera
module to be more compact. In
recent years, demand for more
accurate depth sensing has
been increasing, particularly

reality (AR), virtual reality (VR),
and other applications such

as robotics and drones that
require autonomous operations.
This new sensor is part of the
DepthSense lineup, which
makes features such as gesture
and object recognition as well
as obstacle detection possible.
By delivering highly accurate
depth-sensing performance in a
compact package with low power
consumption, the new sensor
will help expand the range of
applications for ToF image
sensors.

N

ikon Corp. announced
the release of a new
model in its Coolpix
compact camera series - the
Coolpix W300. The W300 is
water/shock-proof, dust/sand
resistant and can endure in
temperatures as low as minus
10 degree Celsius. The new
compact camera offers greater
performance while recording
4K UHD movies. The new
camera is equipped with a 5x
optical zoom Nikkor lens of 24-
120mm f/2.8 in terms of 35mm
format. It features an effective
pixel count of approximately
16MP back-illuminated CMOS
sensor and high-performance
vibration reduction function.
It is equipped with effective

reduction of blur caused
by camera shake or subject
movement. Support of 4K/30p
video recording allow users
to enjoy shooting movies with
outstanding image quality.
Other movie modes include
timelapse and superlapse,
which are recorded and
saved in fast motion, enabling
recording of unique movies
with which changes in the
subject that happen over time
are compressed into minutes
or even seconds. The camera
also features SnapBridge
allowing easy upload to SNS
sites, Pre-focus and Target
Finding AF, a variety of scene
modes, and more. The W
comes in orange, black, and

Coolpix W300 will be available

globally at suggested list price
of USD 389.95.

Kindai (Rayqual), Japan,
announced a lens mount
adaptor to attach third party-

GFX 50S camera. The company

which are now available in
the market. The new adaptor

HS-GFX is developed for
Hasselblad V series lenses and it
comes with tripod plate. As for
35mm lenses, the company has
developed the FD-GFX for Canon
FE lenses, the LR-GFX for Leica
R mount lenses and the CY-GFX
is developed for Contax-Yashica

lenses. The company will also
launch new models like NF-GFX
for Nikon F lenses (except for
G type lenses), the OM-GFX for
Olympus OM lenses, the PK-GFX
for Pentax K lenses except for
DA types, the M42-GFX for M
mount lenses, the EXA/TOP-

GFX for Exakta mount lenses
including Topcon-made models,
the MD-GFX for Minolta MD
mount lenses and the KAR-GFX
for Konica AR mount lenses.
Availability and suggested list
price of these new models will
be announced soon.
