“LikeanykidIalwayslovedchocolate
andIhavetoconfess,chocolatewas
probablymyfirstlovebeforescooters!”
Samlaughed.Afterdevelopinghertaste
budstothewarm,tantalisingtasteof
chocolate,Samwasabout 15 yearsold
whenshefirststartedtobecome
interestedinscooters.
“Iusedtohangaroundwithmyolder
friendswhoalreadyownedscootersand
wereintothescene.Thekidswith
scootersusedtorideupanddownpast
thelocalarcadewhereweasteenagers
usedtohangout,”explainedSam.
Rallyfrustrations
Sam’sfirstrallywasGreatYarmouthin
1992 .“WhenIsawallthescootersthereI
becamemoreandmoreinterestedinthe
scene,andattendingralliesbecamea
regularpastime.Buttheannoyingthing
wasthatIwasgoingtorallieswithfriends
mainlybycar,anditjustwasn’tthesame.
IwasgettingfrustratedthatIdidn’thave
myownscooter!”
Havingseenthevarietyofscootersat
therallies,Samdecidedherfavourite
modelswereVespasmall-framesand
LambrettaGPs,andin 2001 shefinally
madeuphermindandboughtanorange
LambrettaGPwhichwould,induecourse,
becomeherCadbury’sDairyMilkscooter.
IaskedSamhowitcametobethatshe
decidedthatshe’ddevotethethemeof
herGPtothethemeofmilkchocolate.“It
wasalwaysgoingtobeaCadbury’srelated
theme.Oneyearwhenmyhubby,Dean,
boughtmeahugeCadbury’sEasteregg,
ontheboxweregraphicsoffoil-covered
chunksofchocolatemeltingaway.Itwas
sheerindulgenceandIknewIhadfound
mytheme!”
Startingtheprocess
SamcommissionedSimonGoddardof
SimonsBodyshopinBurton-upon-Trentto
applytherichpurplebasecoat.Oncethe
basecoatwascompletedthepanelswere
thensentforthegraphicstobeadded.
However,whenthescooterwasreturned
thegraphicshadbeendoneusingstickers.
“Itjustwasn’tright.Thelookwasn’t
smoothandsilky,itjustdidn’tflowwith
thefeelthatIwanted,”explainedSam.
