Scootering – August 2019

(lu) #1
some unseen scoots as well as some that
have been around the nationals for a
while.Wehad the likes ofAvatar stealing
some of the limelight, and also making a
comeback this season and one of my
personal favourites was Scooterotica.
Yeah, she’snaughty and that’sprecisely
whyIlike it. Saturday afternoon it’stime
to head into town to sink some pints
before the main do. If you have done
Kelso rally before, it’slikely that you have
been to the British Legion for the
afternoon. They haveagreat selection of
drinks behind the bar for decent prices,
two rooms, both with music playing, and
the beloved beer garden that overlooks the
river.Unfortunately this year (must be a
first) the weather wasn’t the best with the
rain. However,theBritish Legion was
prepared and had already erected a
sizeable marque for us all to keep dry.
Saturday evening arrives and we all take a
steady stumble back to the campsite to
get ready to watch the headline band ‘The
Suspect Device’. The three-piece punk

band playedaset consisting of many great
punk tunes. They play covers from bands
such as Stiff Little Fingers, Buzzcocks,
Sham 69, The Stranglers and so many
more. The crowd thoroughly enjoyed their
energetic and passionate performance.
AsIwoke up on Sunday morning the
weather was grim so we quickly packed up
our tents and headed home. The ride was
far from enjoyable. The winding, hilly
roads were soaking wet and slippery, and
toaccompany that were some extremely
strong winds. Scared the shit out of us
really! Unfortunately,afew riders came off
their scooters and one of our lot got blown
far into the hard shoulder as we hit the
motorway.Complete opposite to the
beautiful ride up we had, although as far
asIamaware everyone managed to make
it back home safe and sound.
All in all this wasagreat destination
andafun rally. Well done to the Scottish
number ones and all involved for hosting
another belter.
