Common Moorhen
Binomial Name: Gallinula chloropus
Common Moorhen is the common resident bird of Bangladesh, as declared by IUCN. Thereality is that the bird is not easy to spot. In winter, the extensive marsh, marshland, pond
or water reservoirs of the Chittagong, Dhaka, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions are visible. Theyusually roam in pairs or small flocks in ponds with aquatic plants. They eat by swimming
in the water or walking on aquatic plants. The food list includes small fish, grass seeds,insects, etc. Breeding season, May to August. It makes a nest in grass or in tree branches
hanging on water. Dried thin stalks and dried grass vines are used as materials to make
nests.
