Birds of the Sundarban

(Foridi Numan) #1

Bank Myna
Binomial Name: Acridotheres ginginianus
The Bank Myna is a rare resident bird in the bird list of Bangladesh. In riverine areas, theyusually roam in small or large flocks near human settlements, cowsheds, garbage dumps,
pastures, roadsides, and wetlands. When a wetland is cultivated, they fly behind the farmerin flocks to gather food from the tilled soil. Earthworms and insects are their favorite food.
In addition, blood-sucking worms are often picked up by resting cattle. During the breedingseason from March to August, colonies build nests by digging long burrows in the sand
along steep riverbanks, especially under bridges or culverts.
