Greater Flameback, Greater Goldenback
Binomial Name: Chrysocolaptes lucidus
The Greater Flameback is the common resident bird of Bangladesh. Like the ancient pirates,the bird with the black eye patch is recognizable by sight. They roam in pairs or family
groups in mangrove forests, evergreen forests, deciduous forests,gardens, and localities. They search for food by striking insect-infested
or dead trees with a hammer-like force. Their diet includes ants, insects,insect puppies, and flower juice. During the breeding season from March
to May, they make nests by digging holes under tree branches and laying
eggs.
