34 Horoscope Guide
In regard to this aspect, it’s also
helpful that the last one in the series
takes place in the middle degrees
of each sign, an indication that this
sextile is coming from a place that
strives for balance. Whenever there
are differences between two parties,
the proper relationship between them
can be achieved more easily if both are
inclined to find the middle ground in
any issues they face together.
By the way, 16 degrees of Capricorn
is on the 2nd house cusp in the chart
for the United States (Sibly version
for July 4, 1776, at 5:10 p.m. in
Philadelphia). This is the money house
in a chart, as the 2nd house deals with
what a person (or a country) values,
both materially and symbolically. The
economic status of America, as well as
her banking industry, is governed by the
energy of Capricorn, ruled by Saturn.
On the other hand, what we speak
of as The American Dream involves
both hard work and imagination, so
the November conjunction is likely to
remind the country as a whole of that
fact.
A Saturn-Neptune Creation
As an added measure we can also
take a look at what the symbolism of
the degrees of the Saturn and Neptune
sextile might add to the picture, using
an astrological technique best known
through the work of 20th-century
astrologer Marc Edmund Jones in his
The Sabian Symbols in Astrology. This
might seem a bit out of order in regard
to what we’ve said about these two so
far, save for one thing, which is that
there is a Saturn-Neptune story behind
the development of these symbols,
which represent each degree of the
zodiac as an image, attached to a very
detailed and thoughtful interpretation
of what that image might mean in
practical terms.
Both Saturn and Neptune in their
sextile on November 8 will be at 16º01
of their respective signs, which is the
17th degree of those signs (if that
seems off, just consider that 0º01 to
0º59 would represent the first degree
of any sign). The Sabian Symbol for
that 17th degree of Capricorn is: A
girl surreptitiously bathing in the
nude, while for Pisces it is: An Easter
promenade. Jones’ basic interpretation
of the first is that it “...is a symbol of
the irresistible desire of all life to strip
back to essentials...” and the second
is said to represent “...a symbol of
that constant expansion of self and
experience which characterizes reality
on its conscious levels...”
The full interpretations, which
amount to around 150 words each, and
include some jargon that requires earlier
material from the book to understand,
are too long to show here, but the point
in bringing them up is that the symbols
clearly speak to our intuitive side,
while the interpretations that follow to
explain them speak to our intellectual
side. Applying them to a situation like
the current Saturn-Neptune aspect in
order to understand the deeper meaning
of two planets in aspect obviously
requires both study and practice.
But consider this: the symbols were
derived by a clairvoyant named Elsie
Wheeler, who was born on September
3, 1887, at 9:45 p.m. CST, with Saturn
and Neptune in a close sextile, while
the interpretations that make up most
