were the difficulties with getting
it right and getting it wrong.
The most ecstatic team in Pro
Stock was evident when Jodi Racco
ran his first six, with a 6.988/195.62.
And the Tremayne brothers almost
predictably dipped into the sixes
too, with two more 6.98s.
Pro Bike was simmering with
potential throughout qualifying, and
Top Bike saw Chris Matheson run a
highlight of the event pass at 6.03
for the nitro burners, with a 1000ft
wheelie and shut off, coasting down
to 192mph. Without a question of
doubt, a five-second pass which
was unfolding to that point.
Pro eliminations kicked off
with the quickest side-by-side Top
Fuel pairing in Australia. Newby
hit 3.780/312.13, eclipsing Phil
Read’s 3.810/315.78. Terry Sainty
wheelstood to a 4.020/288.39
which took everyone’s focus off
USA’s Ashley Sanford’s troubled
pass. Damien Harris punched out a
3.774/322.27 to re-adjust the record
books, and Kelly Bettes advanced
with a 3.920. Three-second passes
ended in round one, and in the
final championship winner, Wayne
Newby’s 5.608 was enough to
stop the Lamittina “Carrot Kings”,
with Bettes pedalling furiously
but futilely to a 10.2 effort.
Gary Phillips went nowhere
quick in round one of Pro Alky.
His hopes faded as Cameron Ames
disappeared down the track, then
he too had issues. Gary recovered
and slipped by for an unbelievable
win at 6.63 over a 6.54! Phillips then
waded through a field of upsets and
carnage, to eventually win the event
over the altered of Justin Walsh,
and another championship too.
Pro Stock produced a polished
display of tight and quick pairings.
It came down to a 6.986/195.76
coupled with a win light for
Brian Pursell in the final, over
Tyrone Tremayne’s 6.985/196.82.
A sleepy .116 reaction didn’t save
his quicker elapsed time. It wasn’t
a total loss as Aaron Tremayne
had won the championship.
Steve Ham played (so-called) safe
during Pro Slammer, content with
The most surprised winner of Pro Stock was probably
Brian Pursell! when he upset Tyrone Tremayne.
First and only qualifier and Damien Harris smashed out a no-fuss 3.778/321.96.
And less than a heartbeat from his record pass of 3.777 a year ago.
On this qualifying shot, Chris Matheson tormented Jay Upton in the opposing lane, by
shutting off at 1000ft and coasted to a 6.03 at a “mere” 192mph on a fuel bike which has
taken him to 241mph! A dead certain solid 5-second pass had he run it through the lights.
