#27 - Sangai Sightings
If you are coming to Manipur,
then you cannot leave without
seeing the Sangai, an endangered
species of brow-antlered deer only
found in this part of the region.
Make your way to Keibul Lamjao,
the world’s only floating national
park, and be sure to make a note
of the phumdis, floating islands, on
Loktak Lake.

#28 - Taste the Thali

No matter where you are in the
Northeast, you are never far away
from a good meal. Manipuri
cuisine is one of the healthiest
cuisines that you will come across
with most dishes made with fresh
greens, less oil and minimal
spices. If you are craving a hearty
meal during your visit, try out a
Manipuri thali and you will not be
disappointed.

#29 - Stock up on Souvenirs

Of course, if you are on
holiday, it is but natural to buy
souvenirs for friends and family
back home. Local weaves are on
top of that list but it is not possible
to buy weaves for everyone, as
it can get expensive and also, it
may end up taking a lot of space
in your backpack or suitcase. If

you are looking for something
small yet unique, then look up
local businesses like Forest Pick
(wild tea) and Hill Wild (artisanal
chocolate) for gifts that your loved
ones will enjoy.

#30 - Explore the Origins of
Polo

The way we know polo is very
different from how it used to be
played in Manipur. Back in the
day, it was commoners who played
the game, clad in dhotis and
turbans, barefoot, and mounted
on indigenous Manipur ponies.
Sadly Manipuri ponies are losing

in the ‘survival of the fittest’ race
due to loss of habitat. But you can
still watch Manipuri polo played
on ponies, simply plan your trip
around Sangai festival when
international matches are held.

#31 - The Golden Opportunity

If you are a fan of trinkets and
baubles then you should make
a point to check out Manipuri
gold while you are visiting. It is
affordable gold plated jewellery
that is perfect for daily wear. It is
quality gold wash, so you don’t
have to worry about it getting
discoloured easily.

brand of

for gifting
