AUGUST 28
Rocketman is the biopic Elton John
deserves – a touching musical
extravaganza that weaves some of
his most famous tunes, including Your
Song and Tiny Dancer, into the story
of his rise to fame. Taron Egerton (the
Kingsman films), who does all his own
singing, excels as the music icon, with
John’s glittery costumes and trademark
kooky sunglasses fitting him like a glove.
Co-starring Bryce Dallas Howard
(Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom)
as John’s mother, Richard Madden
(Game of Thrones) as his manager
and lover John Reid, and Jamie Bell
as songwriting partner Bernie Taupin,
it’s an entertaining singalong delight.

WEDDING (M)
AUGUST 14
Lauren (Miranda Tapsell) and
Ned (Gwilym Lee, both pictured)
are getting married, but first they
need to find Lauren’s mother
(Ursula Yovich), who has gone
AWOL in the Northern Territory
outback. Delightful viewing.
LONG SHOT (M)
AUGUST 14
When smart, sophisticated
politician Charlotte (Charlize
Theron) hires eccentric journalist
Fred (Seth Rogen) to be her
speechwriter on a presidential
campaign, a high-school crush
is reignited. A raunchy, reliably
hilarious rom-com.
THE CURSE OF THE
WEEPING WOMAN (M)
AUGUST 7
Linda Cardellini (pictured with
Roman Christou) plays Anna, who,
with her two children, is drawn
into a terrifying realm and stalked
by La Llorona (Marisol Ramirez)
- a ghostly weeping woman
from an old Mexican folktale.
POKÉMON
DETECTIVE
PIKACHU (PG)
AUGUST 7
The first-ever live-action Pokémon
movie, this fun family offering delights
at every turn. Ryan Reynolds voices
wisecracking Detective Pikachu,
whose former partner on the force,
Harry (also voiced by Reynolds),
has mysteriously disappeared.
Teaming up with Harry’s son Tim
(Justice Smith), he sets out on
a hair-raising adventure to uncover
the truth. This lively collision of the
human and Pokémon worlds features
impressive CGI and ace performances
from Reynolds and Smith, not
to mention Kathryn Newton
(Big Little Lies) and Brit
stalwart Bill Nighy.
