My current Foxtel TV obsession is...
Warrior – it’s brilliant! It’s one of the best things
I’ve seen in years. This idea of the graphic
novel [style] brought to television is just terrific.
And Big Little Lies, of course. I absolutely love
it. The second season is as good as the first.
My dream evening of television would
include... Well, most days I have a dream day
of television, so that’s a hard one! Probably
a new season of True Detective or anything
sociologically serious by David Simon (The Wire).
My favourite kind of TV program is...
I like the kind of intense stuff – things that have
instant contemporary and political resonance
- so, again, anything by the great HBO people
like David Simon and David Milch (True Detective);
the great Davids. I think they set the benchmark.
In my house, we’re obsessed with true crime.
Foxtel has started to show some HBO docos
- there’s one called It’s a Hard Truth, Ain’t It,
which is pretty damn fantastic, as is The Inventor:
Out for Blood in Silicon Valley.
My dream TV-watching companion is...
Why it’s my wife, Susan Kurosawa, the great
travel writer! Sitting there with David Simon
in the background and Martin Scorsese, and
maybe Mr Tarantino could come along
and have a glass of wine as well!
If I could be on any other
television show it would be...
Line of Duty is one I’d like to be
a lead in – I love that series. I’d
be the Australian cop.
My first TV crush was...
Lucy (Lucille Ball) from I Love Lucy.
She was not only gorgeous but
incredibly funny.
My favourite sports to watch on Foxtel
are... We’re devoted to AFL – we’re Carlton
supporters, unfortunately. I’ve been with
Susan for 25 years and I think we’ve only
won five games in that whole time! We also
follow the Rabbitohs in the NRL, and I love
to catch the cricket.
If I had to choose between live TV or
streaming, I prefer... streaming. We tend to
not totally binge but almost binge-watch series.
