What’s the difference between letting your
kids grow up and letting them grow distant?
That’s the question posed by this Netflix film starring
Patricia Arquette, Angela Bassett and Felicity Huffman.
Hurt when they don’t hear from their grown-up sons on
Mother’s Day, pals Gillian, Carol and Helen drive to New
York to surprise them. How will it go down?HHHHRF

The Big Sleep

● FILM / 6.35pm / TCM

Famously baffling, this classic adaptation of a Raymond
Chandler story was the second time out for the immortal
pairing of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. He’s the
street-smart gumshoe Philip Marlowe; she’s the hoity-
toity daughter of a general who’s hired Marlowe to track
down his other daughter and the man who has some very
compromising pictures of her. Sex, death and drugs all
rear their heads – quite a cocktail for 1946. HHHHHSM
