Truck & Driver’s Haul of

Fame is open for business!

A

t August’s Convoy in the

Park, we are presenting

the new Life on the

Road Awards to three

special people – people

nominated by you. Basically, we

looked around and we saw

awards everywhere in this

industry. People in

tuxedos, bow-ties,

eating weird posh

food... yeah,

whatever. Awards

all over the place.

But you don’t

really see drivers

getting recognised for the work

they do, do you?

Here’s the concept. There are

three categories for which you

can nominate someone (hey,

nominate yourself if you want).

These get shortlisted and the

winners get presented with an

awesome trophy at CitP. Not only

that, but event sponsor MAN has

come up with a fantastic prize for

the winners, which involves

something so

spectacularly awesome,

at the moment we can’t

actually say what it is.

Trust us, it’ll be

unforgettable. The

deadline for nomination

is Friday 12 July.

The idea is to run these

awards annually, so this is just

the start of something that is

going to be very special. The

winners will all be featured

individually in Truck & Driver, as

will the MAN event.

Win stuff! Get splashed all

over the hallowed pages of this

magazine! What’s not to like?

Lifetime Achievement

Award: Could be a long-serving

driver, or the boss of

a small company.

Hero of Haulage:

You hear in the press

about truck drivers

coming to the aid of

emergency services,

stranded motorists,

lost animals. Other

drivers are simply

there to help others

day in, day out.

Fundraiser of the

Year: Truckers are always raising

money for charities and good

causes. Our community is always

helping out those in need. This is

a great opportunity to both

reward someone and publicise a

charitable endeavour.

Love and gears

Ahh, two things that make us very happy
indeed: manual gearboxes and trucks being
used as wedding vehicles.
After six years driving used Dafs, owner-
driver Gareth A Leese has taken delivery of
his first new example, a CF 450 FAD Mixer
8x4. Supplied by Imperial Commercials, the
lightweight CF eight-wheel mixer chassis is equipped with a
Putzmeister 8.0cu m drum and equipment.
“I am over the moon with the new CF Mixer,” says Gareth.
“It’s just a joy to drive; effortlessly smooth, super comfy in the
cab. I’m really pleased with my decision to opt for the manual
’box, too. It’s great on the motorway, where I do a fair bit of
work, but around town the manual just gives me that total
control, that bit more flexibility.”
Despite the praise, Gareth’s new Daf CF Mixer isn’t quite
the greatest love in his life, although it must be a close-run
thing! For its very first job, the CF was polished up and
adorned with ribbons to act as the ‘carriage’ for his recent
wedding to Francesca, pictured (right) with Gareth.
