There’s no doubting it. Despite all the hullabaloo concerning the brand, Huawei makes good phones. The Huawei P30 Pro
stands out like a sore thumb, in the best way possible. Just with its camera alone, the P30 Pro can give other flagship phones
from other brands a run for their money.

DIMENSIONS
158 x 73.4 x 8.4mm,
192g When it comes to smartphone photography, the Huawei P30 Pro is king. In other
aspects, this device also slays in terms of performance, including delivering a
top-tier entertainment experience all day long.

The Huawei P30
Pro is equipped
with a 4200mAh
battery. I had fun
gaming, streaming,
and snapping for
one whole day with
this phone before it
died. Plus, this phone
can charge in under
two hours. If you’re
going to charge it
wirelessly, you need
a bit more patience
because it takes
about three hours.

The P30 Pro delivers sharp images even when
zooming up to 30x (it comes with a 5x optical zoom,
10x hybrid zoom, and 50x digital zoom). Pictures will
get less crisp when you’re zoomed in further, but
here’s a pro-tip: use a tripod to stabilize your phone
and give you a less blurry shot.

When it comes to smartphone photography, Huawei is the
mitochondria—err, powerhouse. Boasting a Leica quad camera
rear setup, taking photos with this smartphone is the bee’s
knees. Even at night, this phone captures clear images. Aside
from the usual portrait mode, this phone has Aperture Mode
that allows for post-shot re-focusing.

The P30 Pro makes
use of an in-screen
fingerprint scanner
for an uninterrupted
display. It works a
tad bit quicker than
its facial recognition.
Trying the “twin
test” on its facial
recognition, the P30
Pro failed and unlocked
itself for my twin sister.

The EMUI 9 OS looks sleek but simple and easy to navigate.
There’s really no need for an app drawer because the P30 Pro
shows all your apps with just a swipe. Its gestures echo those
of the iPhone X’s, like swiping up to go to the home screen.
And since this phone came out before the recent Huawei
news, it still enjoys the luxury of having Google apps and
Facebook pre-installed.

From the rear, the
phone gives off a
premium feel. We
got our test unit in
black, but the glass
cover elevates the
basic color. The back
can get slippery and
smudgy; good thing
the phone comes
with a jelly case out
of the box.

The display looks
bigger than 6.47 inches
due to its edge design.
Its dewdrop notch is
almost unnoticeable in
its very slim bezels.
If you aren’t a big fan
of notches, you can just
go to display settings
and block the notch off
with a black bar.
