The XBOOM Go feels way more premium
than its price. Though it has a plastic
shell, this Bluetooth speaker feels rock
solid and reasonably weighty when you
carry it around. It looks robust at first
glance, and is certainly durable as you
can place it anywhere, even in areas
where it can get splashed with liquid,
thanks to IPX5 waterproofing.
The cuboidal shape is a breath of fresh air from
the boxy or round form factors we usually see in
Bluetooth speakers. Plus, the handle bars around
the body add a certain ruggedness to the device.
These bars also function as a shock buffer of sorts
in case you drop the device. There are also options
for different lighting effects (or none at all), which
looks cool if you’re hosting a party or simply want
to add ambience to your room.
Audio quality is
surprisingly great. It has
a good crisp sound and
the vocals are distinct
and undistorted. And it
only gets better when
you turn on the Clear
Vocal and Enhanced
Bass functions.
I especially love that
the speaker produces
clear and deep bass
all throughout, and
that it handles high-res
(FLAC) music very well
thanks to the built-in
aptX HD feature.
Pairing with the device is
very intuitive and seamless.
The connection remains
strong even at a half
basketball court distance.
However, walls, doors, and
other huge dividers break
the connections, which is
normal in most Bluetooth
devices. The XBOOM Go
can also connect up to two
Bluetooth devices at the
same time.
This portable speaker has a voice
command feature, which allows you
to control it with your voice. You can
activate this function with just a press of
a button.
Music anywhere is certainly possible with
the LG XBOOM Go not just because of its
portable form factor but also because of
its reliable battery life. After fully charging
the speaker to 100%, it was able to last for
almost a week with 2 to 3 hours of music
time every day. For non-stop playing, the
XBOOM Go lasted me for almost 24 hours.
