underload.Here,thebusheshaveseparatedandneedreplacing


Thefirststageinrenewingtherearmostbushesforthefrontsubframe
istosupporttheenginesoitsmountscanbeundone.TomLenthall’s
technicianfitsanenginesupportbeamacrossthefrontwingsoftheXJ6
andattachesittoaliftingeyeontheengine

Thesubframeissupportedusinga
transmissionjackandablockofwood.This
takestheloadoffitsmountingboltssothey
areeasiertoundo

A^9 / 16 innutinthemiddleofeachV-shapedfront
subframemountsecuresthesubframeinto
position.Afterundoingthisnut,thebroken
mountisfreetomove,butcannotberemoved

Afterextractingoneofthesubframemounts,
compareitwiththereplacementyouintend
tofittomakesurethenewoneisthecorrect
shapeandsize,andhasthesamemounting
holesandcentrethread

Manoeuvrethenewmountintoposition,if
necessaryusingaprybarforextraleverage.
Clean,greaseandreusethetwo9/16inbolts
thatsecurethemounttocaptivenutsinside
thechassislegs

Aprybarmayberequiredtoleverthesubframe
awayandextracttheoldmount.Itmayhelpto
dropthesubframedownalittle,butitmuststill
besupportedbythetransmissionjack

trytomanoeuvreeachsubframemountout
frombetweentheundersideofthechassisleg
andtopofthesubframe

Theenginemayneedliftingalittlemoreto
ensureitstwomountsarenotpushingdown
onthefrontsubframe(whichwouldmakeit
hardertoremovetheoldsubframemounts)
