Wonder steels
Thanks for the great wheels special in
the July issue. Here is a tip for another
special wheel — these 6x13 inch steel
Borranis, 4x108 PCD, and made in Italy
in the late ‘70s. I advertised in a
Swedish motor mag that I wanted to
buy a set, and a man only 70 km from
me had four in good condition that he
bought new 1979 for his Escort. The
price? Just £75.
They look nice widened to 7, 8 or
9 inches on any old Ford, and you can
paint them in any suitable colour. They
were also available in 5.5x13 inch.
My 1974 Taunus wheel project, shown
in the May issue, is moving forward,
though slowly. Anything that can go
wrong goes wrong. And not once, but
at least twice. But I do not give up and
I am nearly there now!

Classic Cougar
I completely agree with Heath Moore’s
letter in June’s Mailbox about the
Cougar. I too am the proud owner of
one I don’t think that they are too new
for the magazine. They are 20 years’old
now and not newer that the Pumas and
Mondeos that you are beginning to
feature. This generation of Cougar (the
eighth) was released in 1999 and
would fit your ’90s issues.
It is quite a rare car and a real
headturner. For me, it is the perfect
combination of a great daily driver and
a cool unusual car.

In Focus?
I was surprised that the first-generation
Focus didn’t feature in the Back To The
‘90s articles in the June issue. I know
they aren’t the most interesting and I
don’t know if there’s a cooking version,
but I thought that now was the time to
pick them up.

Van love
How good does the Mk2 Escort van
look in the July issue? These were a
big part of my childhood with my Dad
having owned Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3
Escort vans
