WHATISIT?

On a sunny summer’s day you’d be forgiven

for thinking you’re in the Caribbean, but

Carbis Bay Estate is a five-minute drive

from the coastal town of St Ives in beautiful

Cornwall. The 125-acre estate is set on the

butter-coloured sand of a privately owned

beach and is a little slice of heaven.

WHYDOWELOVEIT?

OK! stayed in one of the eight chic Beach

Lodges, which have direct access to the

beach. Set on three levels, every room has

stunning coastal views and each of the

sprawling bedrooms has its own balcony. We

especially loved the en-suite bathroom in the

master bedroom on the second floor, which

featured a Villeroy & Boch freestanding roll

top bath with views across Carbis Bay.

To say the three-bedroom,

four-bathroom lodge is state-

of-the-art is an understatement.

Floor lights lit up at night to guide

us from room to room, and the

lodge features every conceivable

gadget you might need.

The open-plan living

area on the ground

floor had floor-to-ceiling

windows that led out on to

our own private garden with

a hot tub and steps to the

sandy beach. The estate

also features a range of

accommodation, including

hotel rooms in the main

house, suites and cottages.

WHOGOES?

Footballers,

musicians, actors

and TV presenters

have all stayed

at Carbis Bay but

the hotel has a

strict hush-hush

policy. You might

just spot a celeb

while you’re there, though!

WHATELSE?

If you can tear yourself away from

the beach, head to The C Bay

Spa for a pampering session. Our

therapist used Aromatherapy

Associates products for

our ultra-relaxing and

cleansing facial. The

hotel also features two

restaurants, the fine-dining

Sands Restaurant, headed

up by Michelin star chef,

Tom Sellers and the Beach

Club for laid-back dining.

On our last night we sat on

the Beach Club’s terrace

and ate steamed local

mussels with chips (£17.95)

accompanied by a glass

of white wine from local

Cornish vineyard, Camel Valley. Eating local

seafood and sipping local wine while looking

out at the Atlantic Coast was the perfect

ending to a wonderful trip.
