and paints so they were to hand and set to
work.

Saturday 09:30 -12:00
Firstly there are a lot of multiple parts for
the myriad variants of Fw190A that can
be built from the base kit, the parts not for
use being ‘greyed out’ on the parts map in
the instructions and so were identifi ed and
removed from their runners to save confusion
later in the build.
There were then two sections that can
be concentrated on: the cockpit/fuselage

assembly and the wings/undercarriage bays.
The bulk of the cockpit is painted RLM66
Black Grey so all associated parts were
assembled as far as possible and readied for
painting en masse, only the seat pad being
separately painted a leather brown shade The
undercarriage bays were also assembled as
far as practicable and readied for their base
coat of RLM02 Grey.
All the internals were given a wash using
Klear, water and a drop of matt black Tamiya
acrylic. This was liberally applied around the
cockpit and undercarriage bays before being

set aside to dry whilst I had lunch with my wife
and kids.

Saturday 14:00 – 17:00
With the cockpit wash dry, the details were
picked out with various Vallejo acrylics and
a little drybrushing using Medium Sea Grey
enamel to lift the details further. I keep a set of
generic Luftwaffe WW2 fi ghter seat belts for
such builds which were added and painted.
The fuselage could now be closed up at the
tail end leaving the front section unglued, thus
allowing the cockpit ‘tub’ to be slipped in from
