breakfast with the family I retired to the
workshop to crack on with my weekend build.
The upper wings that had previously been
sprayed RLM 74 and 75 the night before were
masked off in readiness for the RLM74 light
blue undersides and fuselage sides. In my
need for speed I opted to use Mr. Color C117
RLM76. Being a lacquer, it dries quickly to
form a tough layer within minutes of being
sprayed - thinning it with Mr. Color Levelling
Thinners only serves to enhance it further. No
sooner had I cleaned the airbrush out from
the RLM76 than it was refi lled with RLM74
followed by RLM75 for the mottle pattern to be
applied to the fuselage and tails. I followed the
paint guide as far as I could, though I really am
not to sure just how accurate it is!
While the paint dried for an hour or so I
fi nished up the smaller parts including the
propeller and spinner as well as the u/c legs
and gear doors all of which were painted,
assembled and weathered in situ so they could
be set aside for fi nal attachment later in the
day (hopefully!)
Before I stopped for a coffee I wanted to get
the gloss coat on in readiness for decals and
weathering, again with speed of the essence
I opted for Mr. Color lacquer after having
previously removed all the masking tape. Of
note here is the lower cowling piece which
needed to be RLM04 Yellow, this is such a
superb fi t it could be left off to be painted and
attached with care later on saving some tricky
masking around compound curves.
The cowling was masked off having previously been painted white
- the same with the cockpit section. The two upper RLM74 and 75
colours were airbrushed freehand onto the upper surfaces.
With the wheel bays plugged with
packing foam and the upper surfaces
masked off, the RLM76 Lichtblau
could be airbrushed on.
The mottle pattern was easily applied with heavily thinned RLM74 and 75 following the painting
guide in the instructions. Also, the upper fuselage camoufl age was touched-up at the same time.
Everything was unmasked and received a generous gloss clear coat ready for decals and washes.
