would look odd, so
I went with a 50:50
Black/White fi nish.
For the nose cone
and ramjet nose
rings, I used RLM04
Yellow. As yellow is
an awkward colour
to airbrush, I applied
this over a coat of fl at
white. I also took the
opportunity to paint the
clamshell wheel covers in their
respective scheme area colours,
but only after airbrushing their interiors
in aluminium, followed by a Dark Brown AK
wash. All things painted, the model was then
protected with a couple of thin coats of Klear,
in preparation for decals and the setting
solution I would use.
For decaling, well, you can pretty much
do anything you like, and I did. I used a
combination of the kit decals, which were

excellent,
along with some spare decals from a couple of
Eduard kits. These also included a very small
number of random stencils that I scattered
around the airframe. Due to the fi ne nature
of the rivets and panel lines, I opted to use
Mr. Mark Setter Neo as an insurance policy.

Decalling took no
more than an hour
or so, and that
was later followed
by a thin brush
coat of Klear
over the decals,
sealing them in.
AK’s neutral wash
was then applied
to all external detail,
including rivet lines.
Once dry, the excess was
removed and residues buffed
into the surrounding paintwork,
altering the tone slightly.

ON THE LAUNCHPAD
With the Triebfl ügel, there aren’t too many
items to fi nish prior to completion. Apart from
the whip aerial and DF loop, the only other
items related to the undercarriage. First, I
airbrushed the interior of the clamshell gear

After some tedious masking, RLM82 Light Green was airbrushed over the remaining visible areas.

All previous masking was
now removed and the
model masked for the
application of RLM81.

To break up the scheme
a little, I airbrushed black
and white over the centre
fuselage collar, and
RLM04 over the ramjet
nose cowls and fuselage
nose. The latter was
applied over a base of
fl at white.

A combination of kit decals and spare decals from an Eduard kit were used
to pretty things up. Remember, it’s only your imagination and
available decals that limits the choice!
