Fold a cord, leave a suitable length
for the necklace loop, then tie a clover-
leaf knot (1) followed by a good luck knot
with four outer loops (6). Extend each outer
loop into a cloverleaf knot (2–5). Bring the
cord ends together and tie a button knot (7).
Pull the cord ends through the loop at the top
of an old coin, then turn them back and sew
them onto the button knot. Make a button
tassel (8) and attach it to the bottom loop of
the coin.

37

Fold a cord, leave a suitable length
for the necklace loop, then tie a
double connection knot (1) followed by a
cloverleaf knot (2). Separate out the right
cord end and tie a cloverleaf knot (3). Place
it on the middle outer loop of another
cloverleaf knot (4), then hook up the outer
loops of cloverleaf knots 4 and 2. Then tie
a knot similar to a ru yi knot (8) by replacing
its topmost cloverleaf knot with a round
brocade knot (6). The left and right sides of
the ru yi knot are both cloverleaf knots with
two outer loops (5, 7). On the bottom of
the ru yi knot, tie a cloverleaf knot (9) that is
hooked up with cloverleaf knot 4, as shown.
Then tie another two cloverleaf knots (10,
11) using the same tying technique as that
of cloverleaf knots 3 and 4. Repeat the
steps on the left side of the knot formation
(12–20), making sure both sides are identi-
cal. Bring the two cord ends together and
tie a cloverleaf knot (21). Sew a pair of fold-
ed cords onto the base of the knot forma-
tion. String each of the four cords with a
bead and sew a tiny bead onto the ends.
Finally, insert a big bead in the center of
the knot formation.

Start this knot formation from the base. Fold a cord and tie a cloverleaf knot (1) followed
by a winged pan changknot (2). Start tying a round brocade knot with fourteen outer
loops (15). Extend the second outer loop on the left into a cloverleaf knot (3). Extend the fourth
outer loop into a round brocade knot with six outer loops (7), and extend the first, third and
fifth outer loops of the round brocade knot into a cloverleaf knot (4), a pan changknot (5) and
a cloverleaf knot (6) respectively, as shown above. Extend the sixth outer loop into a cloverleaf
knot (8). Repeat the steps on the right side of the knot formation (9–15), making sure both sides
are identical. After completing round brocade knot 15, bring the cord ends together and tie a
double connection knot (16) followed by a button knot (17). Finally, sew beads of different sizes
inside the loops of the round brocade knot, as shown above.
